So getting right down to it, what is the real dilemma that is hounding the Multi-Level Marketing Industry and the Network Marketing Industry as well? It may be the pyramid format that most companies in the direct-selling field implements. But you cannot really questioned this kind of compensation structure because almost all of the largest sales organzations throughout the world has that kind of format. The sales representatives will get commission for their work and the sales managers would get the overrides/bonuses on top of that, and the sales directors up to the very top of the pyramid. Maybe because that you have to pay some kind of fee to be able to join? But it could not be the reason because ot is a standard franchising model were you have to pay to obtained some kind of product or service.
Also, most sign-up costs for most MLM companies are very minimal compared to the franchise fees for most common franchising companies. There are many illegal pyramid schemes out there. It is a way of making money for signing people up with no real product to be sell. But Whatever bad impressions that we may have, it is a fact that companies like Amway, Excel or USANA as well as others have sold millions to happy and satisfied customers, who many of them are also not sales representatives. So if you would really think about it, there is a perception problem, but if there is, the existing perception about MLM’s and networking companies are out of line with the current reality.
The bad reputation maybe the effect of the occasional illegal pyramid schemes that we here from the news. The actual problem with multi-level marketing companies may not be the system itself but the quality of the people that are in the business.
Network Marketing is just an example of business model and it basically just amounts to selling or retailing on a small basis. One of its strengths is that it only requires very little cost to enter with a very good outlook for revenue and there are many people who have already benefitted from this concept. The whole concept is very attractive for people who do not have any business experience and not qualified to be their own boss. This characteristics of the Multi-level Marketing Industry makes it attractive to people who are:
1.)Have bungled up with their previous business or careers and has little money to restart all over again.
2.)No previous experience in any kind of business or any sales activity.
3.) Have little experience in developing any business relationship with an employer or co-worker.

This all results in many network marketers:
1.) Over selling the opportunity.
2.)Discussing business over awkward situations, which can be seen as a desparate move.
3.) Being focused on new members and neglecting long-time customers.
